The dormouse's name is based on its trait of slipping into slumbers and comes from the Anglo-Norman word dormeus, which means "sleepy one". How fitting it is to see a plump little dormouse, hunched sleepily over his well supplies tummy in a warm and cosy nest. Vicky, with an eye for the very adorable qualities found in minute, fragile animals such as these, is able to relay the features that melt our hearts. Tiny pink feet and soft pink ears, downy fur and nuzzled little whiskers, are details evident for all to see. Surrounding the dormouse is his self-made burrow of carefully selected autumn leaves. Leaves continue around the circumference of the box, which has been painted in the black metallic oxide, resembling the darkest tunnel that this tiny creature took to for his restful hibernation.
